Leg Warmers

Ballerinas in the dance studio were practicing to "Till There was you" during this afternoon's snow storm. The Southern Virginia ballet class are now not the only ones on campus wearing leg warmers this late in the year.

"When ye are in the service of you fellow beings..."

Oakton Virginia Stake President and attorney Scott Wheatley spoke about the value of timely service in today's devotional. "The time your neighbor's driveway is covered in snow is not the time to bring them soup, it's the time you shovel their driveway."

Higher Education and Mormon Culture

There was an interesting conversation online last week at the Times and Seasons blog regarding higher education and Mormon Culture.

For those interested in what the Church is doing in higher education and what others are doing to help educate more Latter-day Saints in the U.S. and abroad, check out the original post here: http://timesandseasons.org/index.php/2010/02/higher-education-and-mormon-culture/

Major Fair

Students attending the Major Fair Forum this morning learned more than what kind of jobs they can best prepare for but other interesting and informative facts such as:

1. Biology, the "hip", "happening" and "cool crowd" major according to biology professor, Dr. Gardner.
2. The difference between Professors Jones and Dransfield.
3. The difference between Professors Rodriguez and Fuentes.
4. The ABC's of art by Professor Crawford.

What did you learn at the forum today?

It's 3 p.m. and your kids are...at the library

They may be asleep at 3 a.m. like the political commercials suggested but your children are wide awake at 3 p.m. and studying hard. Southern Virginia students were found this afternoon immersed in everything from Dickens to Athens, Spanish to semantics.

A phone may not be ringing in the White House but if yours rings in the library you can bet you'll be asked to take it outside.

What's not to love?

Here we have the knight statue donning a red metallic boa, paper sign and day-old fushia balloons. Nothing says "Valentine" better than a bronze sculpture with balloons.

Follow the fashions of the knight statue here at SCOOP! your official and exclusive Knight Statue Fashion Blog.

Jubilee!

Last week two Southern Virginia choirs entertained a packed Chandler Hall with traditional spirituals like "Deep River" and "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel.” Choir members sang and danced in the aisles while the audience sang and clapped along with them. Director LaRae Carter surprised the audience during "When the Saints Go Marching In" when choir member Kyle Neilsen walked off the stage to lead the choir and Carter turned to lead the audience for the final chorus. A good time was had by all.
