According to an article in the Palm Beach Post
, Elizabeth “Beezie” Madden (’84), who was valedictorian of her graduating class at what was then Southern Seminary Junior College, has three Olympic medals to her name and hopes to be one of the 200 equestrian athletes to compete in the summer games.
Her team won an Olympic gold medal in 2004 in Athens, Greece, and she received an individual bronze metal and her team won the gold yet again in 2008 at the Olympic games in Beijing.
According to the article’s author, Madden said, “I always want the team to win gold… if I can win an individual gold, that would be great as well.”
Madden was the first woman to pass the $1 million mark in show jumping earnings. She has been riding since the age of three.
We wish the best of luck to our alumna in the United States Equestrian Federation selection trials in March that will determine which athletes will represent the U.S. individually, as well as on a team.
