On any other week, it would be unnerving to walk into Durham Hall and be met by hundreds of faces staring straight at you, but not this week! It’s election week at Southern Virginia, and what would election week be without the innumerable posters plastered around campus?
I suppose it’s more important to consider what election week would be without the handful of dedicated students who spent hours putting those posters up, campaigning for positions on next year’s Student Executive Council. This week, we had the opportunity to hear from these students about their hopes and plans for our university, and I think that this is a demonstration of appreciation and love for Southern Virginia that shouldn’t go unnoticed.
My housemate, Elissa Greenman, is this year’s vice president of campus programming, and living with her has allowed me to see how many late nights, early mornings, and effort those who are a part of Southern Virginia’s Student Association (SVSA) invest in the university. Perhaps that’s why I took more care with my vote this semester and why I’m looking forward to the announcement tomorrow of the 2015-2016 Student Executive Council.
I have confidence that the Student Executive Council and the university’s hours of behind-the-scene work make a difference at Southern Virginia and can help the university continue to progress and develop, and I can’t wait to see what the 2015-2016 year brings.
